Leadership

USASF Leadership Facilitators bring a wealth of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm for teaching others to tap into their own personal leadership style. Our core vision is to empower those in attendance to find their personal leadership and communication style and create a path for transforming and leading those within their circle of influence.

Each Leadership Workshop will have Core Staff. Additional Leadership Regional Facilitators will be added based on registrations and location.

Project Love

Partnering with Values-in-Action Foundation, our goal is to stop bullying before it starts by empowering athletes to always lead with kindness, caring and respect. Instilling a sense of empathy and understanding for others shapes a positive culture in programs, schools and communities.

Be Kind® STICK TOGETHER® is a free, character education program offered by the USASF, Project Love and Duck Tape® in an effort to provide a fun and different way to explore the important social-emotional learning concepts of kindness and sticking together to combat bullying and negative behaviors. Using a combination of tools, the program mixes large group discussion, video elements, hands-on activities and a writing exercise to keep athletes interested and engaged. The lesson culminates with the athletes pledging to “stick together” as they write their individual names on pieces of Duck Tape® and post them on a poster provided in their membership box. This poster can hold the pledges/names of up to 150-200 athletes. After the program, the banner would be displayed prominently in facilities as a constant reminder to be kind, caring and respectful to others.

Word Power

We as a society need to teach our children to be kind, to be accepting and understanding of others. Our programs are made up of children of different races, religions, cultural backgrounds, socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities. Many children laugh and make fun of children with disabilities because they do not understand or are uncomfortable about the differences.

The month of October is recognized as Global Diversity Awareness Month. Let’s us use this opportunity by empowering our youngsters with education with one word a week, along with a fun activity, about diversity and inclusion to teach and foster acceptance.

Instructions

In The Connection each week during the month of October you will find a Word of the Week along with a short lesson plan and activity.  Print out the information and spend a few minutes with your athletes to provoke conversation. Encourage your athletes to find commonalities and talk about the differences and how people with disabilities do not want to be defined by it.  Avoid words like “sick”, “suffering from”, or “wrong”. The population simply wants to be treated like everyone else and you have a great platform to teach just that!

Week 1 – Diversity

Week 2 – Inclusion

Week 3 – Self Awareness

Week 4 – Independence

The U.S. All Star Federation has a mission to support and enrich the lives of our All Star athletes and members. We strive to provide consistent rules and safety guidelines, drive competitive excellence and promote a positive image for the sport.
